Geo-Spatial Analysis for Site Selection
This is an example of geo-spatial analysis for site selection. Available office space in Northern VA in mapped along with proximity to Metro stations, relative road traffic, and amenities in several desirable categories. The average distance to each all amenities is calculated relative to each site. Applying filters to building criteria or amenity classes updates the average in real-time. The average is only returned for sites visible within the window; zooming in on a single site will reveal the average amenity distance for the selected types for that site only.
Real Estate Targeting based on Transit
This example depicts a search of Multi-family residential buildings within a 10-minute walking distance of Chicago Metra stations. ISOvists from each station are drawn and properties greater than 100,000 square feet are filtered into each area. Using the filters, one can narrow a search based on a certain mile-distance from the city, or isolate for buildings of a certain size or class. Several buildings fall within a 10-minute distance of more than one station as well, which can be isolated via filter.
Spatial Experience Mapping
This example highlights the use of Instagram as a framework for mapping the experience of a campus tour. Participants were asked to capture inspiring moments and images throughout and those images were later mapped along with the tour route which was captured by a GPS logger. Image locations reveal concentrations of positive experience along the tour and images could be analyzed for sentiment or content to further texture the map.
Taxi Drop-offs Over Time
This example displays hex-binning of taxi pick ups and drop-offs to the Woodlawn, Chicago neighborhood from 2013 to 2016. The color scale represents the number of pickups from each area. Using filters for ride time of day, payment type or scrubbing the time-line will update the aggregation. It is interesting to note that while the overall pattern is consistent from year to year (spikes in April, July and October), the overall volume of taxi rides is steadily decreasing. Is this the effect of ride-share on the taxi industry?
